When my son was about two years old or so, he announced - while looking out our backyard window - "Look, Dad! A kangaroo!"
He was a victim of our practices regarding television, I suppose, and had therefore only ever seen still-life or artistic renderings of the animals in question.
Granted, if he had
been glued to Animal Planet all day, he might never have made this mistake. But he also would likely never have become the unbelievably learned, prolific 
reader he is today.
Thankfully, the young people of Hampton Roads will now have the chance to see the difference for themselves - live - at our local zoo.
